Vocera Joins Intermountain's Healthcare Transformation Lab
Partnership Will Bring People and Technology Together, Improving Quality and Reducing Healthcare Costs
SAN JOSE, Calif. - February 20, 2014 - Vocera Communications, Inc. (NYSE: VCRA), the leading provider of integrated, intelligent communication solutions for mission-critical mobile environments, today announced that it has signed a collaboration agreement with Intermountain Healthcare as a member of Intermountain's Healthcare Transformation Lab. Vocera joins fellow collaborative partners Dell, CenturyLink, NetApp and Sotera Wireless, as well as founding members Xi3 Corporation, Intel and Cerner, to advance the lab's mission to bring forth transformational solutions that improve healthcare quality at sustainable costs.
The current U.S. health system faces increased demand for services by a larger and older population. At the same time, reduced federal and state resources have forced hospitals and health systems to work within tight budgetary constraints. The Transformation Lab was unveiled in August 2013 as an incubator for technologies focused on improving health quality and managing costs through the utilization of healthcare best practices; the promotion of preventative care, patient engagement and long-term care management models; and a wiser use of resources.
"Vocera's reputation for driving smart ways to work and communicate, leaving more time for patients, is a perfect fit with Intermountain's dedication to finding best practices and improving clinical protocols," said Fred Holston, chief technology officer and executive director at Intermountain Healthcare. "We are excited to leverage the contributions Vocera will make to the Lab's vision and activities."
Within the Transformation Lab, located on the Intermountain Medical Center campus in Murray, Utah, Intermountain employees and collaborating organizations jointly research, design and evaluate technological solutions that will have a lasting impact on patient care. Since its inception, the Lab has brought about five innovative projects, such as a personalized patient room, that are leading the way to a transformed healthcare system.
"Vocera is excited to partner with a long-term customer to find solutions that will contribute to real change," said Brent Lang, president & CEO of Vocera. "Vocera has long been committed to addressing hospitals' most critical communication challenges that have an impact on patient safety as well as hospital productivity. Intermountain's efforts align closely with Vocera's own vision, and we welcome this opportunity to join the healthcare system in driving much needed transformation."
