Vocera CEO and Olympic Gold Medalist to Receive NCAA Silver Anniversary Award


SAN JOSE, Calif. - December 15, 2014 - Vocera Communications, Inc. (NYSE: VCRA), the leading provider of real-time, intelligent communication solutions for mission-critical mobile environments, today announced that President and Chief Executive Officer Brent Lang is one of the six recipients of the 2015 NCAA Silver Anniversary Award.

Lang, a former member of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team (1987-90), will be recognized during the 2015 NCAA Honors Celebration on Friday, Jan. 16, 2014 at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Md.

The NCAA Silver Anniversary Award recognizes six distinguished former student-athletes on the 25th anniversary of the end of their intercollegiate athletics eligibility. The Honors Committee, comprised of representatives of NCAA member schools and nationally prominent former student-athletes, selects each year's recipients.

Lang was among the world's best sprinters in the late 1980s and is among the best swimmers to ever compete for the University of Michigan. Lang was a four-time NCAA champion, 12-time NCAA All-American, 12-time Big Ten champion, 1988 Big Ten Co-Swimmer of the Year and 1990 Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient.

Following his sophomore season, Lang represented the United States at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, winning a gold medal as part of the 400-meter freestyle relay. He also won a pair of gold medals at both the 1989 Pan Pacific Championships and 1990 World Championships.

Academically, Lang was a 1989 Academic All-American and was the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society National Laureate Award Winner in 1990. He graduated summa cum laude from Michigan with a degree in industrial and operational engineering before earning an MBA from Stanford University.

In his current role as president and CEO of Vocera, Lang applies lessons he's learned as an accomplished swimmer regarding leadership, team work, collaboration, and the power of positive thinking to create a culture of success. Since joining Vocera in 2001, Lang helped transform the company from a startup to a publicly-traded corporation with over 380 employees and revenues of over $100 million.
