Mobile devices are transforming the efficiency of healthcare communication and care coordination, while also creating new challenges for many information technology (IT) leaders at hospitals and health systems. From security concerns to support issues, the “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) trend can threaten an organization if the right policies and communication platform are not in place.
To understand BYOD demands, preferences, and potential gaps and opportunities, Vocera Communications surveyed more than 100 healthcare IT leaders during the 2015 HIMSS Conference. According to the findings, many hospitals and health system IT leaders are still grappling with BYOD. In fact, most of them recognize the growing demand for BYOD, yet lack a strategic plan to address it. The main challenge is designing policies and infrastructure that empower care teams to securely communicate to the right person with the right information at the right time on the right device in the right location.
