The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an increase in unique and innovative digital technology solutions for patients with COVID-19 and other people in need of healthcare services. Telehealth products and services allow healthcare providers to deliver acute, chronic, primary, and specialty care services to patients without the risk of COVID-19 exposure thus reducing the strain on healthcare systems and PPE usage.

The Increase of Telehealth in Non-COVID-19 Healthcare

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely restricted patients’ abilities to see their doctors. Rather than delaying preventive, chronic, or routine care, telehealth has helped expand access and maintain continuity of care while keeping doctors and patients safe. Virtual care solutions can also reduce the workload of overwhelmed hospitals and care centers. Telehealth products and services were steadily being accepted and embraced in previous years but have been massively adopted and integrated over the last year, not only by transitioning established patients to remote care but also by increasing healthcare service options to people who may have not previously had access to providers.

The Importance of Telehealth in COVID-19 Care

Health care providers are relying on the power of technology and telehealth products and services for making diagnoses and clinical decisions, managing staff, monitoring hospital beds’ capacity, and more during the COVID-19 pandemic. These remote technological offerings can reduce the risk of exposure to doctors, nurses, and hospital staff by also providing information, monitoring, and a form of communication between healthcare providers and quarantined or hospitalized COVID-19 positive patients.

    Vocera Ease: Connecting During COVID-19

Strict COVID-19 protocols have prevented family members from being at their loved one’s side (or in some cases, even in the waiting room) during their hospital stay. The Vocera Ease app has helped patients and their families communicate and stay informed when they can’t physically be present. A patient simply chooses which friends and family members to add to their list and those people will then receive texts, photos, and videos from doctors and nurses about their care and progress.

    The Future of Telehealth Products

Natural disasters and epidemics pose many challenges in providing health care. Integrating telehealth products and services can improve convenience and access to care, lead to better patient outcomes, and build a more efficient healthcare system. The Vocera Ease app reduces anxiety, keeps patients and loved ones informed, and offers an unparalleled level of inclusion and transparency—all great comforts during this pandemic. Ease is currently being used by doctors, hospitals, and care centers across the United States to keep patients and families informed and at ease. The future of telehealth is today—the future is Ease!
