Below are some of the ways Vocera incorporates corporate responsibility into its day-to-day business operations.


Employee Volunteerism and Community Involvement

Vocera encourages its employees to volunteer and give back to their communities through the Volunteer Time Off (VTO) program. This paid time off enables employees to volunteer during the work week at 501(c)(3) or internationally equivalent corporations for a certain number of hours per year. Some examples of where Vocera employees have volunteered include the Red Cross, Second Harvest Food Bank, Med Share and Habitat for Humanity. The level of community service that Vocera employees exhibit is impressive and speaks loudly to the spirit and culture of the company.

Corporate Giving

Vocera also supports community efforts by making corporate donations according to its corporate giving policy. Some donations are given through the company’s matching funds programs in conjunction with employee giving, and other donations are made via the Vocera Foundation. The company’s employee-run Employee Community Involvement Council (ECIC) manages the employee volunteerism and corporate giving programs to ensure that the corporate objectives for these programs are achieved.

Environmentalism and Corporate Citizenship

Vocera is committed to growing its business in a responsible manner that promotes environmental sustainability and conscientious supply chain management. Vocera recognizes that pollution prevention and resource conservation are key to a sustainable environment and will effectively integrate these concepts into its business decision-making. Vocera regularly reviews its practices to ensure that these objectives are met.

Conflict Minerals

Vocera has adopted a Conflict Minerals Policy to address the legal and compliance risks and other possible adverse impacts that may be associated with extracting, trading, handling and exporting certain "conflict minerals." Such "conflict minerals" are defined as specific minerals (tantalum, tin, gold, and tungsten) originating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and adjoining countries that are being exploited and traded to finance extreme levels of violence in that geographic area. Vocera has filed a corresponding Form SD, including a Conflict Minerals Report, with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that highlights our current status relative to SEC’s rule mandated by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

Labor Standards

As a global provider of communications solutions around the world, Vocera operates in multiple international markets. We are proud of our commitment to apply fair labor practices and adhere to the Responsible Business Alliance’s Code of Conduct, which includes labor standards relating to freely chosen employment, young workers, working hours, wages and benefits, humane treatment, non-discrimination and freedom of association. We are committed to providing equal opportunities in employment and do not engage in or tolerate unlawful workplace conduct, including discrimination, intimidation, or harassment.

Health and Safety

Vocera was founded in 2000 by three entrepreneurs who wanted to facilitate teamwork and communication. That initial concept includes building a company that treats others as we want to be treated—with integrity and respect—and continues to be a driving force in all we do. Protecting the health and safety of all individuals affected by our activities, including our employees, contractors and the public, has always been a top priority for us. We strive to provide a safe and healthy working environment at all times. Our goal is to have no accidents and mitigate impacts on the environment by engaging with our stakeholders, peers and others to promote responsible environmental practices and continuous workplace improvement.

Vocera also works with our suppliers to help them treat their workers and employees fairly and with dignity and respect, maintain safe working conditions, and conduct manufacturing activities in an environmentally safe and responsible manner. Vocera’s standard supplier agreements obligate suppliers to adhere to applicable laws and regulations, and Vocera’s major supplier agreements require compliance with certain standards relating to working conditions.

Supply Chain Transparency and Human Rights

Vocera and its subsidiaries are opposed to all forms of human trafficking, slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labor and all other trafficking-related activities. As part of this endeavor, we have adopted a Transparency Statement under the UK Modern Slavery Act and the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act, which details our efforts in this area.

Business Ethics

Vocera is committed to promoting high standards of ethical business conduct and compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. As part of this commitment, Vocera has adopted Corporate Governance Guidelines for the purposes of conducting its business in an open, honest and ethical manner, as well as the Director Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and the Employee Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
