William Beaumont Hospital presented the findings of a time and motion study to measure the effect of two-way communication on workflow during a June 2006 HIMSS webinar.
Results of the four-month trial conducted between Beaumont's central telemetry station and direct caregivers included a significant decrease in time to close the communication loop. Among the trial's findings:
- Telemetry alarm closure decreased from 9.45 minutes to 39 seconds
- 100 percent of communication loops closed compared to 26 percent pre-Vocera
