Toronto/Cupertino, Calif., November 7, 2006 — Doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers in hospitals can now instantly communicate with one another thanks to a partnership between Vocera Communications Inc., a wireless communications solutions company, and xwave, a division of Bell Aliant (TSX: BA.UN), one of Canada’s largest information and communications technology (ICT) providers.
Using basic voice commands conveyed through a hands-free communication badge, the Vocera Communication System instantly connects people with one another, allowing them to quickly access patient information, make decisions, and act on them in a timely manner—anytime and anywhere in any wireless-networked building or campus. The badge weighs less than two ounces and can be clipped to a shirt pocket or collar, or worn on a lanyard, enabling instant communication via a combination of wireless local area network (LAN), voice-over-IP (VoIP) and speech-recognition technology.
This agreement represents Vocera’s commitment to the Canadian market. As a Vocera Canadian partner, xwave will provide professional and value-added reselling services across Canada and the United States; xwave offers significant potential for increasing Vocera’s market share while expanding their own healthcare offering. Together the companies will collaborate with healthcare and other public- and private-sector clients to design, implement and support targeted wireless communications solutions.
"Our customers are seeking ways to improve productivity and efficiency using the best communications solutions available for in-building environments,” said Paul Scott, Vice President of Sales, Vocera Communications. “By teaming with xwave, we are now in a position to deliver high-value solutions to Canadian institutions that address the critical communication issues that hospitals are facing today.”
"This agreement aligns perfectly with xwave’s healthcare vision: moving information more efficiently to help providers function more effectively and deliver better care,” said Paul Kent, xwave’s COO and Vice President, Enterprise Solutions, Aliant. “The tremendous enabling capabilities of this hands-free wireless solution offers healthcare personnel obvious benefits in terms of mobility, information access and ability to attend to patients. And from our perspective, this agreement builds on xwave’s current focus areas which include electronic healthcare record technologies and the delivery of a healthcare framework that connects providers and patients at all points in the continuum of care."
