Innovative Vocera Communications System Solves Common “Page and Wait” Problem Encountered at Large Healthcare Organizations
San Jose, Calif. (May 5, 2008) – Vocera Communications, Inc. has been named one of two winners of the award for “Innovation Excellence in Healthcare & Life Sciences” in the annual IBM Beacon Awards competition, honoring IBM Business Partners for their ingenuity, innovation, customer satisfaction, and outstanding achievements in providing business solutions.
The Vocera Communications System is a wearable, hands-free, closed loop, instant communication system which is used primarily by healthcare staff to communicate over a wireless 802.11 b/g LAN environment. Consisting of a lightweight Badge, application software, telephony and integration software, the Vocera System Software and the Vocera Communications Badge are designed to allow users to instantly speak with others throughout a building or campus environment. IBM servers support the application and telephony integration software, and the solution has been provided by IBM Global Technology Services in services engagements.
Vocera solves the real business problems around communication in healthcare, such as “page and wait” to find a resource. When Vocera is deployed, the hospital’s communication workflow is redesigned to enhance staff productivity and improve patient care. Organizations that have implemented Vocera have experienced greater productivity, up to a 5x increase in patient response time and major reductions in patient wait time, response time to critical alarms, patient transport time, and overhead paging.
Judges noted that, “The Vocera Communications System is an innovative solution, not only because it is lightweight, but also because it is compatible and convenient, leaving room for easy integration. The quantifiable benefits cited by its healthcare customers were impressive. Moreover, the team of IBM and Vocera drove significant YTY revenue growth, demonstrating a strong sense of collaboration and commitment to IBM.”
“Vocera Communications has been selected as an IBM Beacon Award winner because of its outstanding contributions to innovative solutions for the Healthcare & Life Sciences industry," said Ravi Marwaha, general manager, IBM Global Business Partners. "Vocera Communications has demonstrated repeatable success in achieving strong customer satisfaction and helping companies solve critical business problems."
“Vocera is honored to receive the IBM Beacon Award for our technology solution and the benefits it delivers to our shared customers," said Bob Flury, vice president of sales, Vocera Communications. “IBM is a global leader in technology solutions and a valued partner to Vocera.”
