Worldwide Solutions Improve Communications at Weston Favell School with New Innovation Vocera Communications

Weston Favell becomes the first school to implement the Space Age voice communications system to streamline effective staff communication.

Northampton, England (October 2007) – Weston Favell School announced today that it will consolidate its communication processes to improve staff communication with Vocera Communications. Worldwide Solutions were the Vocera Partner of choice for the school, due to their networking experience and their certification as an official Trapeze Networks partner.

Following strategic direction from the Senior Leadership Team, John McIntyre - IT Systems Manager at Weston Favell School visited Worldwide Solutions at the BETT show in 2007 and was looking for a solution to replace their existing radios. There are many mobile staff members at Weston Favell and the school’s radio system did not work across the whole site. Senior Leadership Team wanted to improve the basic communication across the school site. The school’s Systems Manager came across the new innovation called Vocera, by Worldwide Solutions.

The main communication issues the school was trying to solve was locating staff and enabling staff member to communicate in emergency situations, when John McIntyre came across Vocera by Worldwide Solutions he knew he had found the right product.

Weston Favell School has purchased a 75 user system, initially for the Corridor Patrol Staff, IT Department and the Senior Leadership Team. The main aim is so that people across the site can be called at any time, instantly and hands-free. The Vocera system is an instant voice activated communication system that runs from a wireless network. The beauty of Vocera is that it is fully scalable and can be added to and extended whenever the school requires. The Vocera System, by Worldwide Solutions integrates into the external telephony system – enabling staff to contact desk phones and external numbers in an emergency.

''The Vocera System is a complete package, offering numerous features which will help our communication flows on a daily basis, we envisage that Vocera will save a lot of time which was normally spent looking for individuals. “ The system is easy to manage and locating staff is fast and effective”. states John McIntyre - IT Systems Manager for Weston Favell School, Northampton.

SIP phones were originally recommended by the local authority; however John wanted to find a system that would do everything from voice mail, group calls, email and much more. Vocera was the system of choice due to Vocera having more features. It has the ability to be fully integrated into the telephone system, enabling calls to any phone - anywhere!

The school has had a partial wireless network for two to three years and in addition to the Vocera deployment, Worldwide Solutions are upgrading the school’s wireless to a Trapeze SmartMobile™ Wireless Network. The central management capabilities of RingMaster™ from Trapeze enable the IT Department to centrally view any wireless outages from a single location, completing diagnostics quickly and effectively. Worldwide Solutions are networking specialists with accreditations with Cisco and Trapeze Networks. Worldwide Solutions have surveyed, supplied and are planned to install a fully optimised, safe and secure Trapeze wireless network. Wifi in the school is well used and it is highly important that it is up to the job, which is why a Trapeze wireless network was selected.

The teachers at Weston Favell School now rely on the wireless network as it is a very practical way of working. With Vocera working across the same network, the school is able to optimise the benefits of installing a wireless network. Teachers can now work in any location of the school, having access to vital information at any time, anywhere! The teachers across the school now rely on the network, as it is a very practical and efficient way of working.

In addition to Vocera & Wireless, Worldwide Solutions have also provided IP CCTV into the school, further increasing the security of the school and optimizing the wireless network.
