$2.5 Million Gift from TELUS Starts the Holiday Season Off Right for the New Alberta Children's Hospital

Contribution will allow for new state-of-the-art communications technology

Calgary, Alberta (November 28, 2006) – The Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation today announced a $2.5 million gift from TELUS to support their commitment to providing best-in-class healthcare services to Albertans.

“TELUS and the Alberta Children's Hospital are like family,” said Joe Natale, president of TELUS Business Solutions. “Generations of TELUS team members and their kids rely on the Alberta Children's Hospital to make a real difference in their lives. Today's gift will build on the heritage we share with the hospital, allowing them to leverage technology to better serve Canadians. TELUS is proud of our long-term partnership with the Alberta Children's Hospital and the Calgary Health Region.”

Steve Hoscheit, president and chief executive officer of the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation, said, “We are fortunate to live in a community which has embraced the Alberta Children's Hospital for more than 80 years and it is thanks to the generosity of companies like TELUS that we can continue to offer outstanding healthcare services to children and families in Southern Alberta and across Canada.”

The $2.5 million gift has enabled the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation to fulfill a long-term goal to purchase the Vocera Communications System. Vocera is a leading-edge hands-free, voice-controlled communications device that allows child health experts at the hospital to communicate using a high-tech badge.

The Alberta Children's Hospital is the first children's hospital in Canada to implement this technology. It will have the largest deployment of Vocera hands-free badges in Canada. The new technology will improve workflow, efficiency and patient safety.

The Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation and TELUS have enjoyed a long-standing relationship in Alberta. This past summer in Banff, the TELUS Skins Game raised more than $200,000 for the Foundation.

The Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation raises funds for excellence in child health and family-centred care. Through the generosity of donors, the Foundation provides funding for innovative programs, state-of-the-art equipment, advanced medical training and internationally recognized pediatric research.
