VOCERA COMMUNICATIONS TEAMS WITH INDUSTRY LEADERS — NEW INTEGRATED APPLICATIONS EXPEDITE WORKFLOW, IMPROVE PATIENT CARE
Relationships with Sprint, Motorola, Dictaphone, and WorldWide Interpreters extend Vocera’s system capabilities to more devices, more healthcare staff
NEW ORLEANS (February 26, 2007) — At the 2007 Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference and Exposition, Vocera Communications will showcase new integrations that extend the Vocera platform to other wireless devices and applications providing critical communication for healthcare workers at the point of care. The applications will be demonstrated in Vocera’s booth (#4919) at HIMSS, Feb. 25 – March 1, 2007, in New Orleans, La.
“Providing high-quality patient care is critical to our customers. They seek sophisticated, integrated solutions on any device anytime, anywhere,” said Brent Lang, executive vice president, Vocera Communications. “Through these partnerships with industry leaders, we offer customers flexibility in the platform they select to interact with the Vocera System.”
Vocera has partnered with industry leaders, including Sprint (NYSE: S), Motorola, and Dictaphone, to extend and enhance its platform offerings to increase staff productivity, improve teamwork, and streamline information flow for improved patient care.
“Healthcare organizations need to maximize the use of every application and device they bring into the enterprise,” said Lang. “The integration demonstrations being shown at HIMSS reinforce Vocera’s position as a platform that enables immediate communication on the right device at the right time for the right care provider.”
Vocera Partnerships Lead to Saved Time, Improved Care
These new applications, developed with industry partners, go beyond voice communication to streamline teamwork and accelerate critical workflow to improve patient care.
- Sprint Partnership Extends Vocera From Wi-Fi to WAN
Through a new partnership with Sprint, the Vocera System’s capabilities will be extended from a purely WiFi network to the Wide Area Network (WAN). This expansion to WAN will allow doctors, clinicians, and nurses who travel outside their WiFi network to remain connected to the Vocera System through Sprint and Nextel phones. For example, paramedics accompanying an accident victim in an ambulance can use the walkie-talkie feature on their Nextel phone to speak directly with the emergency room staff wearing Vocera Badges to prepare them for the arriving patient. This saves valuable time in administering the best care for the patient the instant they arrive at the hospital.
- Integration With Motorola’s MC70 Ensures Data Capture and Instant Communication
Mobile computing devices provide greater flexibility for clinicians and nurses to capture data, verify medication orders, and access information wherever they are, whenever they need it, to impact patient care. As an ISV member of Motorola’s PartnerSelect program, Vocera is integrating with Motorola’s MC70, the first rugged enterprise-class digital assistant, to allow MC70 users full access to Vocera functionality, enabling connectivity and streamlined workflow for clinical applications. MC70 users will be able to use the built-in speakerphone, similar to a Vocera Badge, hold the device to their ear like a phone, or plug in a headset to use in noisy environments and instantly communicate information.
- Cisco IP-PBX Collaboration Leads to Expanded Connectivity
Vocera offers a wide range of options with hospital PBX systems to enable instant connections between fixed and mobile users. Recognizing the growing adoption of IP telephony in enterprises, Vocera connects to Cisco IP phones through Cisco Call Manager (CCM). Vocera supports connection to CCM through legacy TDM interfaces, as well as Vocera’s new SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) interface slated for commercial availability in late 2007.
- Dictation Capture and Editing Through Vocera Badge
In partnership with Dictaphone, a division of Nuance, physicians will be able to speak through their Vocera Communications Badges to dictate and edit notes from patient visits, offering time-savings and enhanced productivity. The dictation can be processed in multiple ways through the Dictaphone Enterprise Express platform, and the transcription results are instantly available.
- WorldWide Interpreters Partnership Provides Access to Real-Time Translation Services
By combining Vocera’s instant voice communication with WorldWide Interpreters live interpretation services, clinical staff can immediately access language interpretation services via the Vocera Badge. WorldWide Interpreters provides live, medically trained interpreter services instantly in more than 100 languages at any time. Combining the services of WorldWide Interpreters with the Vocera System provides hospital staff with immediate access to services from a medically trained interpreter at the point of care.
- Emergin Enterprise Service Bus
The Emergin Integration Suite provides a centralized platform for integrating the Vocera System with a wide range of hospital systems. Alerts and alarms can be delivered instantly to the Vocera Badge via the Emergin Enterprise Service Bus from nurse call systems, patient monitoring systems, and infusion pumps. When shifts change for on-site and off-site personnel, the caregiver/patient assignments can be immediately updated through the Emergin Orchestrator Client. In a dynamic critical care environment, this allows newly assigned caregivers to be constantly in tune with patient needs.
The Vocera Communications System is sold through select value-added resellers, and pricing is based on purchase of the software, Badges, and service and maintenance agreements.
