Management Team

Vocera's management team is lead by executives with a track record of successes at companies including Motorola, Nortel Networks, Polycom, 3Com Corporation, IDEO, Neoforma, Cardinal Health, and Juniper Networks. With extensive experience in bringing a variety of complex network-based software and hardware systems to market, the Vocera team is committed to developing and delivering the highest quality wireless voice communication solutions to hospitals, retailers, libraries, hotels, and other organizations with mobile workforces.

Robert Zollars is Chairman and CEO of Vocera.  He joined the company in May 2007 and has more than 29 years of experience leading healthcare and technology organizations. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of Wound Care Solutions, the leading operator of outsourced chronic wound care centers. For six years prior to that, Mr. Zollars was Chairman and CEO of Neoforma, Inc. (Nasdaq: NEOF), a leading healthcare technology company focused on the supply chain that serviced 1,200 hospital and 465 supplier customers. Before Neoforma, he was executive vice president for Cardinal Health, Inc. (NYSE: CAH), a $75 billion healthcare product and service company, where he was responsible for five wholly owned subsidiaries: Pyxis Corporation, Owen Healthcare, Medicine Shoppe International, Cardinal International, and Cardinal’s information technology businesses. Mr. Zollars came to Cardinal from Baxter International (NYSE: BAX), where he led five different operating divisions ranging in size from $100 million in revenue to over $5 billion in revenue. He started his career at American Hospital Supply Corporation which was acquired by Baxter in 1985.

Mr. Zollars has an MBA in Finance from John F. Kennedy University and graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Marketing from Arizona State University.

He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for the Center for Services Leadership at Arizona State University. He is also a Director of VWR International, Reliant Technologies, and Diamond Foods.

Robert Shostak is the principal founder and Chief Technology Officer of Vocera. He founded Vocera in 2000 and initiated the product architecture and strategy for the system.  Prior to founding Vocera, Dr. Shostak founded Portera Systems, a web technology company, where he was CTO.  He also co-founded and was Vice President of Software Development at ANSA Software, where he authored the Paradox database desktop software. After ANSA merged with Borland International in 1989, as chief scientist Dr. Shostak spent several years developing new database technology. Previously, he conducted research in computer science and digital design at the Stanford Research Institutes.

Dr. Shostak is recognized as the father of the branch of distributed computing known as Byzantine Agreement. He has published over 20 articles in various areas of computer science, and was editor of Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Automated Deduction.  He was also the recipient of the 2005 Edsger Dijkstra Prize in Distributed Computing. He holds BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in computer science and applied mathematics from Harvard University.

Brent Lang is President and COO of Vocera. Previously at Vocera, Mr. Lang was Executive Vice President. In his prior position, Mr. Lang was Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for more than five years. He was an early member of the Vocera team and has lead the development of the company's marketing and product strategies. He has been directly involved in venture capital fund raising, company strategy and branding, and go-to-market channel strategy. Mr. Lang joined Vocera from 3Com Corporation, where he was the Senior Director of Marketing for their digital home products managing marketing, business development, and product management for the broadband cable and DSL modems and home networking products. While at 3Com, he co-founded the Home Networking Division and managed the rapid growth of the Fast Ethernet network interface card business. Prior to 3Com, Mr. Lang worked as a Strategy Consultant for Monitor Company, advising Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Lang earned his BS degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Martin Silver, Vocera's Chief Financial Officer, has over 16 years experience as a CFO at pre-IPO and publicly-traded technology companies. Most recently, Mr. Silver held CFO positions at Elance and Green Border Technologies, Inc. Mr. Silver began his career at Hewlett-Packard as a product engineer, then moved to the venture side of the business where he became a partner at a Boston-based venture capital firm. He then joined the team of one of his investment companies, Credence Systems, where as CFO he helped drive the company to five-fold growth in four years. Previously, while at Corsair Communications, Inc., Mr. Silver managed the company’s $40 million initial public offering. Mr. Silver holds an MBA from the Wharton School and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.

James Blastos is Vice President of Operations for Vocera. He has more than 20 years experience in leadership positions in small- and large-sized organizations in engineering, quality engineering, operations, and application engineering. He joined Vocera from Foveon, a digital imaging fabless semiconductor company, where he was the Director of Operations for seven years. Prior to Foveon, he was at KLA-Tencor, where he held a number of engineering positions, and in the Army where he served as a physics instructor at West Point, an attack helicopter company commander, and held various staff positions.

Mr. Blastos holds a BS in Nuclear Engineering and Laser Physics from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an MBA from Chaminade University, and an MS in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Bob Flury, Vocera's Vice President of Sales, brings extensive knowledge of sales organizations, strategic sales channels, and the healthcare industry to his position.  Most recently, Mr. Flury was President and COO of LifeNexus.  Prior to LifeNexus, Mr. Flury was Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Neoforma and was also Vice President of Sales at PeopleSoft's healthcare division, Software AG, and Dun & Bradstreet.  Mr. Flury holds an MBA and a BS from Georgia State University and is a CPA.

Niraj Jain, Vice President of Business Development, has over 20 years of experience in marketing and strategic development. Before joining Vocera, Mr. Jain was CEO of Mediated Systems, a company he co-founded to create innovative storage management solutions. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at SAN Valley Systems, a venture-backed startup developing products for storage networking. Mr. Jain has also served as Director of Business Development at 3Com Corporation where he was responsible for strategic planning, industry development, and M&A activity for the Residential Connectivity Group and led the development of a business plan to leverage 3Com’s broadband modem sales into a $1 billion value-added solutions business. He has also held senior positions in strategic planning and advanced technology development at Prodigy and Philips Labs.

Mr. Jain has a BSEE from the Indian Institute of Technology, a MSEE from Virginia Tech, and has undertaken doctoral studies at Columbia University.

Amy Karabinas, Vice President of Engineering, joined Vocera from VMware, where she was Senior Director of Engineering. Ms. Karabinas has more than 20 years experience in developing complex software and hardware products. Prior to her position at VMware, she was Senior Director for Storage System Engineering at Sun Microsystems, where she directed the development and test areas for the entire storage systems line. Before Sun, she held a variety of engineering positions at IBM. Ms. Karabinas has a BS in computer engineering from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.

Victoria Perkins, Vice President of Customer Services, joined Vocera after successfully assisting the company in defining a growth-oriented strategic customer services framework. Before joining Vocera, Ms. Perkins assisted venture-backed companies in launching strategic services organizations. Prior to that, she was Vice President of Professional Services for Sun Microsystems' Software Tools Division and at Forte Software, which was acquired by Sun in 1999. She has also held senior management positions at Objectivity Software, Verity Software, and Digital Equipment Corporation. Ms. Perkins received a BA from Brown University.
