Board

Robert Zollars is Chairman and CEO of Vocera Communications having recently joined the company in May 2007. He has more than 28 years of healthcare technology experience having led several leading healthcare IT organizations.  Most recently, he served as President and CEO of Wound Care Solutions, the leading operator of outsourced chronic wound care centers serving 275 hospital customers nationwide. Before he joined Wound Care Solutions, he was chairman and CEO of Neoforma, Inc, a leading healthcare technology company focused on the supply chain servicing 1,200 hospital and 465 supplier customers.  Prior to holding that position, he was executive vice president for Cardinal Health, Inc. a $75 billion healthcare product and service company, where he was responsible for five wholly owned subsidiaries. Previously, he rose through the ranks from a president of the dietary products division to president of U.S. Distribution at Baxter International, a $10 billion manufacturer and distributor of healthcare services and products.  He started his career at American Hospital Supply Corporation which was acquired by Baxter in 1985. 

Mr. Zollars has an MBA in Finance from John F. Kennedy University and a BS in Marketing from Arizona State University.  He has received numerous awards and served on nearly ten healthcare company boards.

Robert Shostak, principal founder and CTO of Vocera Communications founded Vocera Communications in 2000. Dr. Shostak has lead the strategy and architecture of the Vocera Communications System. Under Dr. Shostak's guidance the company began shipping product in October, 2002. Prior to founding Vocera, Dr. Shostak founded Portera Systems, a Web technology company, where he was CTO. He also co-founded and was vice president of software development at ANSA Software, where he authored the Paradox database desktop software. When ANSA merged with Borland International in 1989, as chief scientist, Dr. Shostak spent several years developing new database technology. He is recognized as the father of the branch of distributing computing know as Byzantine Agreement. Dr. Shostak was the recipient of the 2005 Edsger Dijkstra Prize in Distributed Computing. He holds BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in computer science and applied mathematics from Harvard University.

Brian Ascher, joined Venrock Associates in 1998 and is focused on software and information technology investments. Brian is a Director of Vocera Communications, Unicru, Atrenta, Relay Health, Datallegro, and Winery Exchange. Prior to Venrock, Brian was Senior Product Manager for Intuit's Quicken.com website and Product Manager for Quicken for Windows, having launched several versions of this market leading product. Earlier in his career Brian was a Strategy Consultant with Monitor Company advising clients worldwide on issues of management and strategy. Brian received a BA, magna cum laude, from Princeton University and an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Giovanni Colella, M.D., is president and general manager, McKesson Personal Health Solutions. McKesson is the world’s largest healthcare IT and automation supplier, with products in 65 percent of the United States health systems and is ranked as No. 16 on the FORTUNE 500. Dr. Colella started his career as a practicing psychiatrist and served as the Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University. He was a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, a partner at SAI, and a senior executive at Sapient, a leading publicly traded technology firm. More recently, Dr. Colella was president and chief executive officer of RelayHealth, which was sold to McKesson. Dr. Colella graduated as valedictorian from the Universita Degli Studi di Milano in Italy and earned his MBA from Columbia Business School where he was a Popper Scholar.

Howard Janzen, a 30-year veteran of the telecommunications and energy industries, is chief executive officer of One Communications, the largest privately-held competitive local telecommunications exchange carrier in the United States. Previously, Janzen served as president of Sprint Business Solutions, serving its $12 billion worldwide business customer base. Janzen also has received the 2001 Ovations Award from Telecom magazine and COMNET for completing a $7 billion, next-generation fiber network as chief executive officer of Williams Communication Group. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in metallurgical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.

Hany Nada, is a co-founder of Granite Global Ventures and is actively investing in software, wireless applications, and multimedia. He is also active with Granite Global's portfolio companies including Kintana, Performance Retail and Onewave. From 1991 to 2000, Mr. Nada was a Managing Director and a Senior Research Analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, specializing in software and e-Infrastructure. He was influential in U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray becoming one of the top software investment banks. In 1999, Mr. Nada was selected as a Wall Street Journal All-Star analyst in computer software and was named runner-up as an Institutional Investor All-Star in three categories. He has authored several key industry reports on diversified media, consumer software, multimedia, internet software and enterprise software. Mr. Nada aided in the formation of U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray's private equity strategy through its Partners Funds. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where he earned a BS in economics and a BA in political science.

Jim Robinson, is founder and general partner at RRE Ventures. He has been active in the technology community for more than 20 years as a venture capital investor, banker, and entrepreneur. Prior to co-founding RRE, Mr. Robinson founded and was President of IV Systems, Inc., spent four years with J.P. Morgan and Company working on technology-related assignments, and subsequently joined Hambrecht & Quist Venture Capital in San Francisco as a general partner across several investment funds primarily within the software and communication sectors. Since co-founding RRE in late 1994, Mr. Robinson has been responsible for more than 25 technology investments, and currently serves as Director of Broadsoft, Enpirion, Goldpocket Interactive, Goldpocket Wireless, Mixed Signals, iCrossing, Orchestria, SmartPay Jieyin, WisdomTree and is Chairman of Vivre. Mr. Robinson is involved in several non-profit endeavors and holds a double degree in Computer Science and Business Administration from Antioch College and earned an MBA from Harvard.

Don Wood, General Partner at Vanguard Ventures in Palo Alto, Calif. Mr. Wood is also Managing Director at Draper Fisher Jurvetson of Menlo Park, Calif. Prior to joining Vanguard, Mr. Wood was the President of Metricom, Inc. and a member of its Board of Directors. He joined Metricom in November, 1994 and was responsible for evolving Metricom from a wireless network equipment manufacturer into a portable, wireless Internet service carrier. Prior to Metricom, Mr. Wood was with Octel Communications, Inc., and was responsible for marketing, product management, and sales engineering for the customer premise equipment division. In 1987, Mr. Wood co-founded Wood-Howard Products, Inc., a consumer product publishing company. Mr. Wood holds a patent on a folding, laminated publishing format, which he licensed to Simon and Schuster, Rand McNally, and several other publishing companies. Mr. Wood was also a management consultant with McKinsey and Company. His work at McKinsey included operations, marketing, and acquisition projects for numerous Fortune 500 companies. Upon college graduation, Mr. Wood worked in the policy-planning department of the Environment Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. He holds an MBA as well as a BA in economics from Stanford University.
