Robert Zollars is Chairman and CEO of Vocera Inc. He joined the company in
May 2007 and has 30 years of experience leading healthcare and
technology organizations. Most recently, he served as President and CEO
of Wound Care Solutions, the leading operator of outsourced chronic
wound care centers. For six years prior to that, Mr. Zollars was
Chairman and CEO of Neoforma, Inc., a leading healthcare
technology company focused on the supply chain that serviced 1,200
hospital and 465 supplier customers. Before Neoforma, he was EVP for Cardinal Health, Inc., a $75 billion
healthcare product and service company, where he was responsible for
five wholly owned subsidiaries: Pyxis Corporation, Owen Healthcare,
Medicine Shoppe International, Cardinal International, and Cardinal's
information technology businesses. Mr. Zollars came to Cardinal from
Baxter International, where he led four different operating
divisions ranging in size from $100 million in revenue to over $5
billion in revenue. He started his career at American Hospital Supply
Corporation which was acquired by Baxter in 1985.
Mr. Zollars has an MBA in Finance from John F. Kennedy University and
graduated magna cum laude with a BS in marketing from Arizona State
University.
He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for the Center for
Services Leadership at Arizona State University. He is also a Director
of VWR International, and Diamond Foods.
Robert Shostak, principal founder and CTO, founded Vocera Communications, Inc. in 2000. Dr. Shostak has lead the strategy and architecture of the Vocera communications system. Under Dr. Shostak's guidance the company began shipping product in October, 2002. Prior to founding Vocera, Dr. Shostak founded Portera Systems, a Web technology company, where he was CTO. He also co-founded and was vice president of software development at ANSA Software, where he authored the Paradox database desktop software. When ANSA merged with Borland International in 1989, as chief scientist, Dr. Shostak spent several years developing new database technology. He is recognized as the father of the branch of distributing computing know as Byzantine Agreement. Dr. Shostak was the recipient of the 2005 Edsger Dijkstra Prize in Distributed Computing. He holds BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in computer science and applied mathematics from Harvard University.
Brian Ascher, joined Venrock in 1998 as a Kauffman Fellow, after holding marketing and product marketing positions at Intuit, Inc. He had responsibility for launching several versions of the market-leading software product Quicken and the Quicken.com website. The job led to a passion for the user experience for Mr. Ascher, one that he continually applies to consumer ventures. He also brings strategic consulting knowledge gained at the Monitor Group and investment banking experience from Robertson, Stephens & Company to his portfolio companies. He currently serves on the boards of Vocera, Atrenta, Awarepoint, Intercasting, Martini Media, Retail Solutions, and Shopflick. Mr. Ascher earned his BA, magna cum laude from Princeton University and his MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of business.
M. Bridget Duffy, MD, most recently, was Chief Experience Officer of the Cleveland Clinic, the first senior position of its kind in the nation. Dr. Duffy’s passion for defining and creating optimal healing environments for patients has been the focus of her work throughout her 20-year career. Currently, she advises healthcare organizations of all types on implementing the strategic and operational changes required to significantly improve the patient and employee experience. Dr. Duffy earned her BS in education and public health from the University of Minnesota; completed her residency program in internal medicine at Abbott Northwestern Hospital; and her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Jeffrey H. Hillebrand, Chief Operating Officer of NorthShore University HealthSystem. Mr. Hillebrand, in addition to his role as COO of NorthShore University HealthSystem, is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and served as a Regent for five years. He is a member of the World Presidents’ Organization. Mr. Hillebrand served as a Commissioner of the Certification Commission of Healthcare Information Technology and on the board of the National Association of Healthcare Information Technology. Mr. Hillebrand earned his BA from Dartmouth College and an MA in health services administration from the University of Michigan.
John Grotting, most recently, Chief Executive Officer of Ascent Healthcare Solutions, which was acquired by Stryker Medical in December, 2009. Mr. Grotting has over 30 years of hospital and healthcare management leadership experience. Prior to joining Ascent, he served as President and CEO of Bridge Medical, a leading developer of hospital medication management systems. Prior to Bridge Medical, he held top executive positions at Allina Health System and Legacy Health System. Mr. Grotting earned his BA in economics from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and a Master's Degree in healthcare management from the University of Minnesota.
Howard Janzen, a 30-year veteran of the telecommunications and energy industries, is chief executive officer of One Communications, the largest privately-held competitive local telecommunications exchange carrier in the United States. Previously, Mr. Janzen served as president of Sprint Business Solutions, serving its $12 billion worldwide business customer base. Mr. Janzen also has received the 2001 Ovations Award from Telecom magazine and COMNET for completing a $7 billion, next-generation fiber network as chief executive officer of Williams Communication Group. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in metallurgical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
Hany Nada, is a co-founder of GGV Capital and is actively investing in software, wireless applications, and multimedia. He is also active with GGV Capital's portfolio companies including Kintana, Performance Retail, and OneWave. From 1991 to 2000, Mr. Nada was a Managing Director and a Senior Research Analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, specializing in software and e-Infrastructure. He was influential in U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray becoming one of the top software investment banks. In 1999, Mr. Nada was selected as a Wall Street Journal All-Star analyst in computer software and was named runner-up as an Institutional Investor All-Star in three categories. He has authored several key industry reports on diversified media, consumer software, multimedia, internet software and enterprise software. Mr. Nada aided in the formation of U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray's private equity strategy through its Partners Funds. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where he earned a BS in economics and a BA in political science.
Don Wood, Managing Director at Draper Fisher Jurvetson of Menlo Park, Calif. Mr. Wood is also General Partner at Vanguard Ventures in Palo Alto, Calif. Earlier, Mr. Wood was the President of Metricom, Inc. and a member of its Board of Directors. He joined Metricom in November, 1994 and was responsible for evolving Metricom from a wireless network equipment manufacturer into a portable, wireless Internet service carrier. Prior to Metricom, Mr. Wood was with Octel Communications, Inc., and was responsible for marketing, product management, and sales engineering for the customer premise equipment division. In 1987, Mr. Wood co-founded Wood-Howard Products, Inc., a consumer product publishing company. Mr. Wood holds a patent on a folding, laminated publishing format, which he licensed to Simon and Schuster, Rand McNally, and several other publishing companies. Mr. Wood was also a management consultant with McKinsey and Company. His work at McKinsey included operations, marketing, and acquisition projects for numerous Fortune 500 companies. Upon college graduation, Mr. Wood worked in the policy-planning department of the Environment Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. He holds an MBA as well as a BA in economics from Stanford University.
